Charity Classic
Clubhouse scores were showing 32 as a decent score on what was a difficult wet day underfoot. The last group included Greg Banks & Andrew Allsopp, both players in form & heading to the 2023 Matchplay Final.
As they approached the clubhouse, smiling & with that knowing winners look, they stated scores of 43 & 40, a whopping 11 points ahead of 3rd placed Mark Jones!
The questions & banter began in earnest, with Greg taking it on the chin & Phil excited to head home & calculate his new handicap!!
Order of Merit
As with most seasons, the Order Of Merit run in was really exciting with 3 members teeing off on day 2 with a realistic chance of taking the title.
Adrian Heath had a slight advantage, with Andrew Allsopp & Phil Wing needing a strong performance to close the gap. Aida was favourite & needed at least 30 points, his lowest season score, to be crowned Champion!
The 3 took were grouped, with Aida still holding an outside chance of also securing the Tour Championship.
Aida played well all day & although Andrew & Phil did close the gap, they both accepted that Aida deserved the win, with consistent play throughout the season.
Matchplay Championship
In true Society style, Andrew Allsopp & Greg Banks were tied after 18 & not making the call on 'the decider' were ruled to play the event again, although the default rule saw Greg take the win! In a kind & noble gesture, Greg called the draw & agreed to host another 18 holes.
The 'second' 18 was a poor show from both competitors & with a live Whatsapp scoreline, the game was more exciting to the virtual spectators, with double bogeys winning some holes!
Andrew was to scrape over the line, & with a knowing look to Greg, accepted the MatchPlay Championship Trophy.
